Giveaway- two more books looking for a new home

Yes, you read it right!! I am giving away two more books from my collection. These are books which have been with me for some time now. The first one is a Crochet pattern book from Dover Publications.

The patterns are from the DMC archives and quite elaborate.I purchased this book with the plans of crocheting , but that never happened.

The pages are in black and white and the first few pages have the instructions to crochet the basic stitches.

The second book is a tatting book and is rather old - from the year 1971. I got this with a bunch of second hand books I purchased from a store. I would've loved to keep it, but on second thoughts , may be someone who loves tatting would be more appreciative of  it. This is not for a beginner, but for someone who loves collecting vintage books and reviving old patterns.

Here are some pictures of the patterns from the book. Some of the initial pages with instructions on how to tat are slightly damaged, and there is a lot of wear and tear, but the instructions are  complete..

In case anyone amongst you would like own any of these two books, please leave a comment mentioning your preference. The giveaway is open till  February 7th.

For those who have missed my previous post - I am giving away  a brand new copy of "Basic principles of Schwalm Whitework " by Luzine Happel. Feel free to participate by leaving a comment on the giveaway post here.

Luzine's Schwalm website and a giveaway

If you're an ardent Schwalm embroidery enthusiast, then you probably may have already paid a  visit to Luzine Happel's Schwalm embroidery website .  Luzine Happel is  well known in the embroidery world for her work and books on Schwalm Embroidery .You can read the reviews of a couple of her wonderful books, Basic Principles of Schwalm Whitework, and Early Schwalm Whitework, here and here.

Since her books are self published, they are usually not found in online stores and the order had to be placed through mail. But now she has come online with her website http://www.luzine-happel.de/?lang=en .

The website is available in two languages - Deutsch and English. The News section is where Luzine writes about her current work. You should also check out Luzine's sampler page where you can see the picture of one of her largest samplers with 321 different patterns. And in case you're keen on getting started with Schwalm embroidery , you could place your order at the Shop

That's about the website . Now for the good news...
Today, courtesy Luzine , I am giving away a copy of Basic Principles of Schwalm Whitework .This book is a superb resource for anyone planning to learn Schwalm embroidery. You can read my review of the book here.

All you have to do is leave a comment here in this post answering this question - Have you done Schwalm embroidery or any kind of white work before? Would you prefer adding colors of your choice to the white work stitches or would you stitch it as it is, in white?
The giveaway is open to all till Jan 28th.I'll announce the winner here in this blog on the subsequent day. In case you prefer purchasing a copy of this book rather than try your luck, please visit Luzine's shop .

So, ladies..let us see who's the lucky one!!!

A stitch that I have not yet named

Thanks to all who "opened their doors"  when I Knocked .It was a pleasure hearing from you after so long.

Some days back I happened to see this tutorial to crochet  a Loop Stitch  . The inspiration for the pictures that you see below came from that video.Instead of crocheting loops, I embroidered them.

I started my trials with the small flower on the left. It looked pretty good. Next, I tried making two layers and found it difficult to do because of the tiny space inside.

I tried the layering again for a bigger flower ,first the red petals were stitched and then the yellow ones. Happy with the outcome. What do you think?

Initially, I had felt that only tiny flowers would look good with this stitch, but now I love the larger flower more :)

Since I have not seen this stitch before , I have not named it. Or may be it exists , and in case it does and  you have seen it somewhere, do let me know . I'll re-title this post with the stitch name. :)

By the way, my embroidered rose survived the washing machine wash cycle not once, but twice !! Little Meghna is using it as her napkin during lunch in school. In fact , when she took it to school for the first time there were requests from her friends to make something similar for them :)

There a few gaps visible after the "bath". But those can be corrected. Still ,no more washing machine, only hand wash from now on - I've tortured her enough.

And thus ends my first "real" embroidery post after a long time. I hope you enjoyed visiting and viewing.

Knock,Knock !!

Me : Knock, knock!

You : Who's there?

Me:  It's me, Deepa.

You : Deepa who?

Me :  mmmmm...Deepa of this and that.

You : Oh, it's been a while. Where have you been?

Me :  Life has been busy- you know, work ,work and work. Now finally I've got a break and so I thought I'll pick up from where I left. There's a lot to catch up.

And so I assume my conversation with you  will go on ....

So, how are you all? I hope the past six months have been pleasant with a lot of creative juices flowing.

Just a little while back, I had written to a friend about not posting at This and that.  I was telling her that since mine is a stitchery blog , there's no point posting if there is no stitching done, which I've not done since July :(
Anyways, now I've got some free time with me and I'm itching to use it well. How about some new stitch technique or even a giveaway?

By the way, a very Happy New Year to all my friends around the world. I wish I could name each of you in my new year wish - but that's rather impractical :)

Before leaving, I would like to show you an embroidered piece that had been mailed long back by one of my online friends,Shoba . She used my Honeycomb chain stitch method  for the roof .

It is a rather simple piece and  how it has been stitched doesn't matter to me.What matters is only that line embroidered there.
Thank you Shoba and thanks to all those who asked about my long absence from the blog world. Will be back soon with a new  post.

Love,luck and sunshine,
Deepa
